Beading Workshops with Ashley Robertson

About Our Workshops

Beading Culture offers meaningful, hands-on beading workshops for participants ages 10 and up. Ourworkshops combine creativity, skill development, and culturally grounded teachings in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Through the art of beading, participants learn more than how to create beautiful handcrafted pieces. They also develop valuable life skills that support personal well-being, self-expression, confidence, and positive relationships with themselves and others.

Our instructors provide guidance, encouragement, kindness, patience, and respect to ensure every participant feels supported throughout their creative journey.

Teachings Through Beading

Mindfulness

Beading encourages participants to be present in the moment. By focusing on each bead, pattern, andstitch, participants can experience calmness and relaxation, take a break from daily stress, and reset in agood way.

Patience

Beading teaches us to be patient with ourselves and appreciate the time it takes to create somethingmeaningful. Participants learn to enjoy the process rather than rush toward the finished product.

Accountability

Participants learn to recognize and correct their mistakes while understanding that it is okay to go back astep or two. Beading encourages responsibility for our work and reminds us that mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow.

Creativity

Choosing personal patterns, colours, and designs allows participants to explore their individuality and express themselves through art. This creative freedom encourages self-discovery, originality, and pride in their work.

Respect

Respect is practised through maintaining a clean workstation, listening to and respecting the instructor, and treating fellow participants with kindness. We also encourage participants to show respect for themselves by practising self-compassion and not being overly hard on themselves when learning something new.

Perseverance

Beading teaches us not to give up when faced with challenges. Participants learn to work toward completing their projects, overcome difficulties, try again when things do not go as planned, and appreciate the accomplishment that comes from perseverance.

Humility

Participants learn that beadwork takes time, patience, and practice. Humility also means recognizing that everyone has different skills and experience levels. By sharing ideas, tips, and techniques, participants can learn from one another while appreciating the knowledge and abilities each person brings.

Mino-wîcihitowin - Building Good Relationships

Mino-wîcihitowin is about creating and maintaining good, positive relationships with ourselves and others.Through beading, participants practise kindness, good communication, understanding, and respect. These teachings help foster a supportive environment where people feel valued, connected, and encouraged.

Self-Confidence

As participants choose their projects, select colours, develop their skills, and complete their handcrafted pieces, they build confidence in their abilities. Beading encourages individuals to recognize the value oftheir work, appreciate their progress, and feel proud of what they create.
